A long long time ago, in a city far far away....
It was early afternoon and shift change.
By that I mean it was time to change drivers. It was me to be the next one to take the wheel on this journey through the country. Although now I have made these trips several times this was one of my first. You see, I am s drummer in several different rock bands and so touring has been a normal part of my life now for a while along with marijuana. As I was awakened to get situated and ready to drive, I had me a cup of coffee and a cigarette too. Soon after we began rolling down the highway, that urge or “craving” kicked in and I wanted to get high. After all there’s not much better than a good ol’ coffee/weed buzz to start an afternoon drive.
At this time I had the flower and no utensils. I have never been great at rolling a joint while driving so I asked towards the back of the van where the bowl was at? No answer. Some of my bandmates were still sleeping and a couple were awake either getting ready to sleep or put headphones on and chill out. I asked again, “Where is the bowl at?” Yes I know that is improper English however I am from Oklahoma and many of us have our “slangy” terms and phrases. I then turned the volume knob down on the stereo and proceeded to ask again. This time it came out a bit louder and I said “ZBOWLAT?!” Everybody started laughing and I stared, “what? I wanna smoke.” I got the pipe which was one of those pretty glass blown straight ones. I feel those are best when driving.
From that point on whenever it was time to smoke it became customary to use the term “Zbowlat” almost as a statement not a question. Since in this country weed is not acceptable everywhere I thought it was a great alternative word for a safety meeting which is what was said before. That is pretty universal btw.
My goal quickly became to spread the word around the country as if it is worthy of a spot in the Dictionary. At least the urban dictionary lol. Eventually I thought maybe it would be a good placement on clothing items and hats. It also became a new medium for my creativity. I never ever I envisioned having a clothing line other than what my bands sold.
Well, here we are today and it’s Trademarked and growing. It is a lifestyle. It is a way to advertise or be discreet about being a toker. I am not trying to promote driving around the world smoking weed all of the time but if you do, smoke with a friend!
